What is ELDOA?
ELDOA, a French acronym translated into English, is LOADS: Longitudinal Osteo-Articular Decoaptation Stretch. Great, but what do all those fancy words actually mean? Starting in the 70s, back pain became the pain of the world, and french Osteopath Guy VOYER, DO, was determined to heal the cause, not just mask the pain. VOYER spent ten years studying and taking different seminars on back pain. Then in the ’80s, VOYER began an intense study of biomechanics in a new way- through tensegrity- introduced by Buckminster Fuller.
VOYER discovered that the primary cause of the pain was compression in a joint caused by gravity or an accident. One common example, Sciatica.
VOYER created ELDOA to deco apt (decompress) the joint that has been compromised, thus eliminating the pain. VOYER created a way to open the specific segment with a precise exercise. It was important to VOYER to teach the patient how to do that for himself- “auto-normalization.” However, this is just the beginning of how ELDOA can help you.
When VOYER returned to Marseille, he opened a gym where he had over 2000 patients. He used ELDOA with all his patients to create research and statistics to understand better what was working and why. It was no surprise to VOYER that their back pain improved, but he was surprised to hear other ailments improved.
“What happened? How is that possible?”
VOYER had forgotten the relationship with all the nerves and the visceral organs via the spinal cord. It's now known that when an ELDOA posture is used to move a specific vertebra gently, it can improve the function of the organ.
ELDOA can:
Create more space between the vertebrae
Create more space for the intervertebral disc
Depress the nerve between the vertebrae
Improve proprioception of the vertebral joint segment
Improve proprioception of the functional spinal unit (FSU)
Hydrate the intervertebral disc
Move all the parts of the annulus fibrosis to stimulate the water intake
The benefits of ELDOA include better posture, improved joint mechanics, reduced pressure on the spinal disc, as well as build muscle tone.
